When Do You Plan?
In the month of December, the feeling of burn out was starting to creep into my vessel. Over the break, I took the time to look over some of the habits that were feeding my burn out, and the main one was not planning ahead. I was letting my projects overflow without supporting myself along the way. I was resorting to my old ways of planning in my car before teaching a class, or falling to sleep to possible choreography. The “What will I teach?” was always looming over my mind. This happens from time to time when the outcome is demanding and we are juggling various projects. The great thing is there is a tool that we can use and that is planning ahead. :)
A life motto that my Dad taught me is, “You make time.” It was important to not create the excuse of “I did not have time.” Now if my necessities are not met, because I am running out of time, then the tool of saying “no” needs to be implemented. My schedule was pretty balanced, but I was not allowing time to plan ahead and alleviate my mind from thinking of what will I teach throughout the entire week. I started carving out time on Saturdays to plan my classes, music and objectives for the previous week. It is amazing when you jump back into this habit you find your mind is able to focus on creative projects that need that mental strength. It also allows you to find time to open up any other possibilities that you would like to build within your creative life.
So the question is, when do YOU plan? How do you develop time to allow yourself to thrive throughout the week? Our editable templates are a great tool to utilize to help carve out time and build a curriculum that will grow throughout your career. Whatever your process may be it is important to develop a system that works for you.
